The train station is England s highest narrow-gauge railway and is the starting point for the South Tynedale Railway. You can also join the Pennine Way walking trail from Alston or jump in the car onto the A686 one of the AA Magazine s Ten Great Drives .

Those with a sense of adventure can embark on a long steep climb up Hartside Fell (32 miles) which also forms part of the Coast to Coast Cycle Route. If you are looking for relaxation enjoy the private hot tub in the enclosed garden while listening to the bird song. You can enter the property either from the front door into a small lobby where there is a handy WC or through the side door directly into the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner.
