Introduction

Steeped in history and with so much to do in the surrounding area you won t know what to do first! Located just 1 mile from Dalbeattie with local amenities. The unspoilt Solway coast is just 5 miles away with 200 miles of rugged coastline to explore. Within 8 miles is Colvend Golf Club and the beautiful sandy beach of Sandyhills. There are fantastic walking routes from your front door; forest trails coastal paths and mountain bikers will love the nearby 7stanes forest tracks less than 3 miles away. Visit Scotland s Food Town Castle Douglas (5 miles) Artist s Town Kirkcudbright (15 miles) RSPB Mersehead (11 miles) or Galloway Activity Centre at Loch Ken which offers a great choice of water sports and activities (16 miles). Get out on foot at Galloway Forest Park (20 miles) or tour other castles in the area Caerlaverock (23 miles) and Threave (7miles). Walk through the courtyard up to the front door as you enter this historic Castle you will feel as though you have been transported back in time! The wood-panelled hallway with period features including the resident Knight takes you up the solid wood staircase to the first floor. The stone floors and thick tapestry curtains lead you into the drawing room with wood-panelled walls and a huge feature fireplace with an open fire. This room is atmospheric and allows you to catch up as a party and live like Lord and Lady for the day. Head up the stone spiral staircase you will find a bathroom and a bedroom which it is believed Mary Queen of Scots has stayed in with a king-size four-poster bed. Head up the spiral staircase to the second floor and you will find a second bedroom with a double four-poster bed. Adjoining the castle but accessed externally there are two fully refurbished beautifully designed and tastefully decorated king-size bedrooms which are in keeping with the rest of the castle. Across the courtyard externally there is a separate building which houses a commercial style kitchen which is well equipped if you would however like to arrange catering this can be done with the owners. There is also a banquet hall with a fire beams and stone walls which makes the perfect venue for a special occasion this too can be booked in advance of your stay with the owners. The grounds and garden are great to explore with lawns sunken gardens and river walks. There is a private hot tub overlooking the garden for you to relax and unwind after a busy day exploring. There is lockable storage for bikes and an outside hose. In the evening watch the stars or enjoy an early morning coffee and read a good book. Need to know: 5 bedrooms 1 double four poster bed, 1 king four poster bed and 2 king size rooms and 1 top floor double. 3 bathrooms 2 en suite bathrooms with shower and WC, 1 family bathroom in tower with bath, shower and WC and 1 WC on top floor. Kitchen with oil fired aga , microwave and fridge/freeze. There is a formal dining/banquet hall which can be booked through the owners and catering can also be arranged. TV in lounge if required. Private hot tub in grounds. Large garden and grounds with lawn, sunken garden, river walk and patio area. Private parking for up to 4 cars. Pubs, shops, and café just over 1 mile away.
