A short break with a baby can still give the adults time away, but a hot tub in the garden does not make a property baby-friendly. This guide is a checklist for checking an individual stay. We have not verified that any particular Hot Tub Retreat listing provides a travel cot, enclosed garden or suitable sleeping layout. Ask the accommodation provider to confirm the details that matter to your family before paying.
Start with sleeping arrangements
Ask whether a travel cot is supplied for your dates, whether it must be requested in advance and whether bedding is included. Check where the cot can go, whether there is enough space around it, and whether the layout allows an adult to hear and reach the baby easily. A photograph or a general “family friendly” label cannot answer those questions.
Check the outdoor space, not just the word “enclosed”
Find out whether the area your child can reach is fully enclosed, where any gates lead and whether there are steps, ponds, decking gaps or a route to the hot tub. Ask for current photos if the listing does not show the boundaries clearly. An enclosed garden is not a substitute for adult supervision.
Keep the hot tub for the adults
RLSS UK advises that children under five should not use a hot tub. It also advises continuous adult supervision around a hot tub and a solid, lockable cover secured immediately after use. Ask the provider whether the tub has a working lockable cover and where it sits in relation to the door and garden. Plan for one adult to be responsible for the baby while another uses the tub; do not assume that being indoors or a cover alone removes the risk.
Questions to send before you book
- Is a travel cot available for these exact dates, and what does it include?
- Where can it be placed, and are there any stairs between sleeping and living spaces?
- Is the garden or deck fully enclosed for a mobile child? Where are the gates and water hazards?
- Does the hot tub have a solid, lockable cover, and who secures it after use?
- Are there property rules or extra charges for infants, cots or use of the hot tub?
