A “private hot tub” usually means the tub is for the exclusive use of your booking. It does not automatically mean that the tub is screened from neighbours, paths, roads, staff or other accommodation.
If privacy matters to your trip, check the wording, photographs and surrounding layout, then ask the provider direct questions before paying.
Private, secluded and remote are different
- Private or exclusive use should mean other guests do not share the hot tub.
- Not overlooked means the tub cannot readily be seen from relevant neighbouring areas, but the exact sightlines still need checking.
- Secluded suggests separation or screening, but it is not a precise booking standard.
- Remote describes the wider location. A rural property can still have another lodge, a host’s home or a footpath nearby.
Do not treat one of these descriptions as proof of the others.
Read the exact property wording
Check the page for the accommodation you would actually book, not only a park, collection or promotional page. Look for an explicit statement that the hot tub belongs to that unit and is not shared.
If a site contains several accommodation types, confirm that the hot tub is included with your selected unit. A general photograph or amenity filter may show a facility that is shared or available only with particular properties.
Inspect photographs for sightlines
Photographs can help you form questions, but they rarely prove complete privacy. Look for:
- neighbouring decks, windows and accommodation;
- paths, parking areas, roads and communal facilities;
- the height and coverage of fences, screens, walls or planting;
- gaps around gates and the route used to reach the tub;
- whether screening may change when plants lose their leaves.
Wide-angle photographs and carefully chosen viewpoints can make distances difficult to judge. Ask when the layout is unclear.
Ask precise questions before booking
A provider can answer a precise question more reliably than “Is it private?”. Ask:
- Is the hot tub solely for the use of our accommodation?
- Can it be seen from another property, path, road, car park or shared area?
- How close is the nearest occupied building or outdoor seating area?
- Do staff need to enter the hot-tub area for routine checks, and when?
- Are there hours when the tub cannot be used?
- Is the outdoor area enclosed, and does “enclosed” mean secure for a dog or child?
Keep the provider’s written response with the booking information if the answer is important to your decision.
Use reviews carefully
Recent reviews may mention overlooking, nearby units, noise, staff access or how exposed the deck feels. They are useful prompts, but layouts, planting and neighbouring use can change.
Check the date and property name. A review for another unit on the same site may not describe the one you intend to book.
Consider privacy at different times
A tub that feels private during the day may be more visible when outdoor lights are on after dark. Seasonal planting, nearby arrivals and staff checks can also change the experience.
