Introduction

On the edge of the small village of Bayton you’ll find Broad Meadows Farmhouse. Once the principal farmhouse on the local Shakenhurst Estate, the property has been renovated to a very high standard, keeping all the charm and character of the original Queen Anne building, with wooden beams and lattice windows, but adding lots of modern amenities too. This stunning property is set in the beautiful, unspoilt countryside of the Worcestershire and Shropshire border.

There’s plenty of space throughout the property for a large group of you to relax and unwind. The little ones might want to make a space of their own in the snug, with its sofa, bean bags and smart television, for instance, while the open plan kitchen and dining area has a dining table that seats twelve, as well as large French doors that let the light flood in. The super king size bedrooms all have zip link beds that can be converted to twin beds should you wish.

The large garden has a number of patios and sitting areas, with a covered barbecue area along with a slate table and fire pit. There’s even a tree house observation area to make the most of those beautiful views!

This booking option allows guests access to the ground and first floor rooms only. Larger groups of up to 12 people can book Broad Meadows Farmhouse (12 Guests) which gives guests access to the entire house with a further two en-suite bedrooms on the second floor.

Attractions and nearby amenities

  • The bustling market town of Ludlow is just a short drive away. With a photogenic town centre as well as the 11th century Ludlow Castle standing proudly on a cliff overlooking the River Teme, it’s a pleasant day out as well as a good base for walking and cycling. The town is also a foodie favourite, thanks to all the great local produce – if you’re here in September don’t miss the Ludlow Food and Drink Festival.
  • For a different type of atmosphere, Bewdley is an attractive Georgian town that’s right on the banks of the River Severn. Bewdley Museum showcases the local crafts and traditional way of life of the Marches.
  • While you’re at Bewdley, why not hop onto the Severn Valley Steam Railway? The line links Kidderminster and Bridgnorth, a distance of sixteen miles or so. It’s a full-size, standard-gauge railway, but the emphasis is on steam!
  • Near to Bewdley is the West Midland Safari Park, home to over 165 species of exotic animals. You can drive through the safari park to see the animals, or go on foot and enjoy the small theme park here.
  • Stokesay Castle is a fortified medieval manor house, built back in the 13th century, and it gives you a real feel of what medieval life was like. The views are stunning, and the tearoom’s not bad too.
  • Ruins don’t come much more magnificent than this. Witley Court is an Italianate mansion built in the seventeenth century. Wander through the glorious gardens past the monumental fountains, and on into magical woodland where the children will come across a wilderness play area.
  • If you simply fancy a stroll through beautiful countryside, Broad Meadows puts you in a rural idyll, with the rolling landscape of Shropshire and the Welsh Hills in the distance. Clee Hill is closest, the most southerly of the Shropshire Hills.
