Introduction

This magnificent country house is set within the beautiful verdant countryside of Somerset yet is easily accessible from London by train and has excellent road links nearby. This rural setting includes Cadbury Hill Fort which is said to be the home of King Arthur s Camelot and is the ideal backdrop for all manner of country pursuits including walking and cycling. Along the way why not try out one of the welcoming local pubs tearoom or village shop – all within walking distance. Should you be able to tear yourself from the property which is a destination in itself there are many historic National Trust properties and pretty villages to explore in the local area. As you step into this wonderful residence you will find the North Hall immediately to the right which boasts an abundance of original charm with a large fireplace and beautiful wood panelling. This is the perfect room in which to enjoy the warmth of the wood burner and take your time over a formal dinner or perhaps to hold a conference. Leading on from here you will marvel at the grand proportions of the ballroom which has wonderful full-length windows and lovely views over the lawns to the lake. This flexible space is ideal for a variety of uses besides dancing. Why not unroll your yoga mats and take some time to relax or plan all manner of fun-filled get togethers here. Just next door is the library which leads on to the morning room. These two intimate spaces are inviting and comfortable and are the perfect back drop for your morning coffee accompanied by a good book. With a light and bright ambience owing to its South and East aspects the morning room is a delight whatever the weather. Moving further into the East Wing you will find the inner workings of the house and some surprises besides. There is a family kitchen complete with 6 oven AGA and fridge/freezer ideal for preparing leisurely meals. In addition to this space there is a full catering kitchen with two six burner gas hobs and ovens two hot cupboards plus a commercial dishwasher. A variety of additional storage rooms are ideal for stowing away your supplies of food and drink and a useful utility room is home to a washing machine and tumble dryer. For a spot of al fresco cooking head outside to the BBQ area which is easily accessible from the kitchen. When the day is ending wander back through the North Hall to the comfortable sitting room with TV or enjoy a game of snooker on the full-size table in the games room. Further cloakrooms with WC facilities are close by before you come to the staircases. There are two to choose between and the principal staircase can certainly be described as magnificent with its wide treads and beautifully carved wood. Those that are less able may wish to use the lift instead which gives access to all floors. Once on the first floor you will have your pick of stunning bedrooms all with individual character. Centrally set the Balcony room with king-size four poster bed offers stunning views and an equally beautiful en-suite bathroom with his and hers sinks and WC. Just opposite are two further bedrooms. The first has a king-size four poster bed Elizabethan ceiling and an en-suite bathroom with roll top bath and WC. A family room is just next door and has a king-size four poster bed en-suite bathroom with hand-held shower and WC plus an adjoining bunk room with 2ft 6 beds suitable for children (available on request). The West Wing has a further three bedrooms to choose from. Here you will find a double with en-suite bathroom and WC. Plus two rooms that interconnect providing the ideal space for a family. The first is a twin room and the second a double. Both rooms share the jack and jill style bathroom which can be accessed from the double bedroom or the landing. The bathroom has a roll top bath WC and historic slate bath set into the floor which can be viewed through a glass screen. Heading to the East Wing brings you to a further three bedrooms. A king-size four poster with en-suite bathroom complete with walk in shower WC and renovated original bath. Next is a twin bedroom which shares a bathroom with roll top bath walk in shower and WC. Just opposite here is a playroom with toys games and a TV/DVD making it the ideal spot for keeping little ones entertained. Also on the first floor and accessed via stairs leading from the ground floor entrance hall is a self-contained annexe set within the East Wing. In contrast to the rest of the house this space has contemporary styling and a plethora of cheery colours and lighting to admire. There is a kitchen/diner which is well equipped with an electric oven and hob microwave dishwasher and fridge. Tuck up in one of the three double bedrooms or chose the cosy single bedroom. The bedrooms share a stylish bathroom with free standing bath separate shower and WC. More bedrooms can be found on the second floor. Climb the staircase at the west end of the house and you arrive in the Medieval Hall and will be standing in what 700 years ago was the roof of the original house. From here you can choose between four double bedrooms with en-suite shower and WC or perhaps a single four poster bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower over bath and WC. There are two double four poster bedrooms one with an en-suite shower and WC the other with stunning open bathroom set into the room with a free-standing roll top bath and WC. A further two double bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with hand-held shower attachments and a WC. The en-suite is accessed via a short flight of stairs in one of the rooms. Another double bedroom is set in the West Wing and has an en-suite bathroom with shower over bath and WC. To the East there are the final two bedrooms a king-size with en-suite bathroom separate shower and WC plus a twin room with separate shower room and WC just next door. From the North Hall head into the East Wing where you will find the entertainment hub of this stunning home. A set of steep and narrow stairs (may not be suitable for the young or infirm) take you down into the former cellars where there is a disco with all the equipment you could need to dance the night away including lighting full sound system with twin iPod mixing desk and a smoke machine. Just opposite is an atmospheric casino with full-size gaming tables. Heading back up to ground level those wishing to get active can start off in the gym before moving on to the indoor heated pool for a swim. Should relaxing be more your style you can take a dip in the Jacuzzi or work up a sweat in the sauna. Male and female changing rooms are just next door and are complete with WC and shower facilities. Once outside you can explore some of the 1 500 privately owned acres of gorgeous Somerset countryside. The grounds associated with the house are principally on the south side. From here you have outstanding views of Cadbury Hill Fort thought to have been King Arthur s Court of Camelot. It s possible to arrive by helicopter or light aircraft using the grass landing strip close to the house. Play a game of croquet outside the Morning Room or enjoy a game of tennis on the hardcourt surrounded by fruit trees within the Georgian walled garden or choose from the two historic lawn tennis courts. This spectacular country house also boasts a three-hole golf course set around the lake with the first tee from the roof! Coarse and fly fishing is also possible in the lakes belonging to the estate. There are many further activities that can be arranged directly with the owner including archery bumper balls and clay shooting.
