Newmarket on the border of Essex and Cambridge is considered the birthplace and national centre of horse racing. The town s most popular event the July Festival takes place in the summer. This market town s main street is lined with independent shops restaurants and cafes. The magnificent High Street Clock Tower the King Edward VII Memorial Gardens the War Memorial Gardens and Cleveland House are also notable.

Visit historic Cambridge and its beautiful university buildings and take a punt along the river (13.9 miles). The Imperial War Museum at Duxford (17.1 miles) is a must-see for history buffs with regular air displays throughout the year. Newmarket has a train station with direct service to Cambridge and London (1 mile). When you enter the cottage you will notice a good-sized lounge with a cosy feel.
